My eight-thousanders adventure started in 1989 when I tried to climb Dhaulagiri and Mount Everest without success! Today, after having climbed all 14 eight-thousanders, I realize that it was the right sobering start because I learned how difficult it is to master these peaks.
I set foot on the summit of Manaslu. It was an incredible experience, never to be forgotten. One year later I climbed Lhotse. I learned so much from this mountain.
I failed to reach the summit of Kanchenjunga
I started the ascent to Shisha Pangma. I was forced to stop three times on the middle peak and was not able able to reach the summit. Shisha Pangma taught me a lot about perseverance.
 I climbed Cho Oyu.
It was an amazing and magical year. After two unsuccessful attempts, I set my foot on the summit of Mount Everest. After Mount Everest, I finally climbed Dhaulagiri and then Gasherbrum I and II.
 It was Makalu's turn.
I again failed to climb Broad Peak (it was written in the stars that Broad Peak would be my last eight-thousander) but I succeeded in climbing Kanchenjunga.
On the fiftieth anniversary of its conquest, I climbed K2 for the second time.
 It was Nanga Parbat.
I finally conquered the main peak of Shisha Panama and Annapurna.
On July 12, 2007, my ascent to the Broad Peak concluded my quest to master the "Eight-thousanders".
