Many mountain lovers want to try the expedition experience because they want to see and climb mountains which are far away from their usual environment. They dream of far off destinations like the Himalaya and Karakorum mountains, Patagonia's peaks or the amazing New Zealand mountains. However an expedition is a complicated undertaking. While the main focus is on the ascent, there are many important things to do in preparation for an expedition and also while climbing if the summit is to be reached. I learned through my own experiences that the expedition outcome can only truly be valued when the expedition is over. The most important aspect of the expedition is to return home safely in good physical and mental condition.

During my years of mountaineering, I acquired many "tricks" which helped me face the expeditions at my best. These tricks contributed to my competence as a mountaineer. Many things seems to be natural and obvious about mountaineering, but when I speak with mountain lovers in Italy or accompany friends on their first expedition or climbing experience, I realize that there are many pitfalls to mountaineering. Having an old friend to "teach you the ropes" may help you avoid or better deal with these pitfalls.
